TPS Position Update – October 9, 2014

. . . . Hudson Technologies (NASDAQ: HDSN) – Sell

HDSN is one of the oldest positions in our portfolio. It’s almost exactly a year since our initial purchase… a very good year for the stock.

In one year’s time, we’ve made a solid 60% on this trade!

Given how hard penny stocks and small caps have been hit in recent weeks, I consider this trade a huge success. Hey, it’s hard to argue with 60% gains!

I don’t see any catalysts to move this stock a significant amount higher anytime soon. Since small caps tend to be riskier investments these days, let’s go ahead and sell HDSN and collect our profits.

. . . . STR Holdings (NYSE: STRI) – Sell

STRI is one of our holdings that hasn’t responded all that well to the recent bout of small cap selling. The stock is basically sitting just below our initial purchase price.

However, the company really hasn’t put out any good news in weeks. And, now there’s a fair amount of resistance above the current price.

In other words, I don’t see a big up move coming in this stock anytime soon. As such, let’s sell STRI here and conserve our capital for better opportunities.

. . . . Bridgeline Digital (NASDAQ: BLIN) – Sell

BLIN is yet another position taking a hit from the selloff in penny stocks and small caps. The stock has pulled back a fair amount from our buying range, although it’s still within striking distance.

However, the company basically hasn’t released anything newsworthy in months. And, volume has really dried up in this name.

With the share price stuck below resistance here, we’re going to unload our BLIN shares. I’m sure we’ll find more exciting opportunities for the remaining capital.
